On the blue side today. Remembering those that have gone to the invisible world. Friends pass and some new ones emerge. Live is beginning again in the apple trees. The robins are creating their nest.

Another Day In Pink

Most of the morning worked in the garden on the rag fence, although did manage to tie string around the 7 out of 8 rows of the tomato plants.

It Is Hot

Saw the first western tanager today. Those birds must be the favorite here at Fairview. One year witnessed them eating from the hummingbird feeder. What intelligence they have.
Dug holes and rows for more crops of pumpkins, watermelon, musk melon and Kentucky wonder green beans. Later will dig some more for planting of corn.

Moon In Cancer

Readied the rows for planting more tomatoes this afternoon. Continued to thin the apples. It is a good day for planting since the moon is going towards the full moon and most of the crops yet to be planted are above ground producing. Next week will be another good time, however: it has been predicted that rain will fall. Will wait and see what happens.

Gardening

Planted rows of tomatoes yesterday. Today dug more rows for planting tomatoes tomorrow. Today planted summer crook neck squash and 3 rows of bell peppers. Finished really weed eating with string head going on to the brush blade soon. Extremely tired the last few days from all the labor.

A Hard Day

It has been a hard day from the start. Woke up late and not really to enthusiastic about doing more weed eating. Managed to continue anyway and finished cutting the grass down on the slope and finished the orchard. Seems like the corner has been turned to finish the project of eliminating all the tall grasses from the property. Only have a couple days left of weed whacking. Sure feels good. As long as there is no more rain will call it quits for this year. On to thinning the apples.

When Will Mercury Go Direct?

What a time it has been with the weed eater. Every day for 4 days have been replacing the same damn part, however; today lost the head and guard. Replaced the parts along with the ones that were replaced 2 times before. Wishing Mercury would hurry up and go direct.

Spring Is For Sure Here

Yesterday journeyed to Suckatomato. More weedeating today for a couple hours. Hauled mushroom compost to the garden then started to thin the apples in the orchard. Looking like a good harvest for the apples this year. Waiting for the berries to bloom so planting the flats of tomatoes can begin. The peonies are starting to really bloom this year.

A Sleepy Day And Hot

Yep it is 100* on the deck at 3:00 p.m. Another day waking up at 5:00 a.m. to hear the roosters crowing and the songbirds singing. Had the water on the flower bed by the big garage at 6:30 a.m. Changed it around 7:30 a.m. Thought some weed eating could happen since the part that was lost yesterday was replaced. Managed to do about 1/2 hour when the head of the weed eater flew off again. Taking it to the repair shop tomorrow to see what is not being done correctly. Of course the part that was purchased yesterday is the part needing to be purchased again. Tied more rags, tinsel and tinsel garlands onto the rag fence to make up for not weed eating.
A cooling trend is expected within a couple days with temperatures in the 80's. Looking forward to this so possibly some planting then can occur.
Feel like a nap is coming on.

Hot Today

94* at noon. Too hot for the middle of May. Woke up with much energy today at 5:30 a.m. Watered the deck plants and then a 7:00 a.m. started weed eating until about an hour into it a part fell off of the head and stopped that. Oh well was ready to quit anyway. Knew it was time to buy some food for the week and buy a part for the weed eater. On the way to the parts store stopped at a yard sale and low and behold they had some fencing all rolled up nicely. It was cheap for the amount, practically a give away. Stopped at the dollar store and purchased some sparkling items for the deer fence. Spent the rest of the morning tying red foil streamers to the rage fence along with some small star shaped foil pinatas. This should do the job of scaring the deer away.

It Is Warming Up

More weed eating today along with fixing the rag fence. Yesterday afternoon removed all objects and mesh wire over plantings. This morning discovered something had eaten the tops of the carrots and had the nerve to pull one out and leave it. What a frustrating experience it is here with all the critters that like the same things as humans, and they say there is no intelligence in the animal kingdom. Getting ready for the hot 100* weather that is approaching for Sunday and Monday. Will probably start planting the tomatoes in the ground after the heat wave. The landscape is now blooming with many iris and the rhododendrons are starting to bloom along with the sun azalea which is fragrant like some tropical plant.

Weed Eating

Weed Eating about 3 to 4 hours every day now. Started this morning around the big garage and eliminated many berry vines along with tall grasses. Moved onto the BLM and removed the tall grasses. BLM has given permission for Fairview to have a 50' defensible space from the property line. During the timber harvest a couple years ago they gave permission to remove about a dozen tall
Ponderosa pines that were close to the structures at Fairview. After that started on the slope across from the house. The slope is more than 30% and one has to be 1/2 billy goat, it is time consuming since there are no more pines to shade the area, therefore; the grasses have become thick and very tall.(up to the waist)

Pretty In Pink

Weed eating again today. It is cooler and the perfect time to refill the weed eater with gas 3 times and replace the string once. Accomplished eliminating the tall weeds, that are waist high in some places. Bounce around the property trying to do it all or at least making it look somewhat manicured.

Start Summer Garden

Another day of attacking those insidious berry vines. Glad there is a blade on the weed eater to tackle the job. It makes everything a whole lot easier. Though when a rock or piece of metal is struck a spark becomes visible making this job for early morning work while the dew is on the ground. So far not many dry spots. Though after this weekend there may be much dry spots due to the very high temperatures predicted.
Fixed some of the old drip irrigation tubing for the tomato plants. Have been instructed not to plant them until the berry vines are blooming. Guess some of them should be left untouched in order to see them bloom.

Weeds

Starting to weed eat the tall grasses. The brush cutter blade that is on the whacker is perfect for the Himalayan black berries that grow wildly all over. Dug again the rows that the tomatoes will be planted in and added some phosphate for root and flower growth. These are some exciting times. Tomorrow will be out there whacking away. Usually by the end of May this chore is finished.

Happy Mother's Day

To all you mothers, may this day be filled with love and joy for you and all that should come in contact with you.

Warm Sunny Days

The last few days have been putting up a rag fence around the garden area to keep the deer out of it. More iris are blooming. The Rhododendron's are beginning to bloom. Temperatures have been in the low 80's.

Purple Is Reining

Yahoo. All the clouds are gone giving way to very warm temps. Naked in the garden putting up the rag fence piece by piece. Soon it will be completed so no deer will enter the space. Need some more protection under the ground besides the gopher snake. Heard juicy fruit gum will work. Bye, bye to the gophers.

Iris

More Iris are starting to bloom along the driveway. Just love walking or driving down this Iris lined pathway. Must admit it was a good landscape plan and the deer don't eat them making it a real plus.
